This August, Indigenous Fashion Projects joined forces with marie claire Australia to celebrate some of this year’s talented line up of NIFA winners, with a special shoot under the Top End sun on Larrakia Country.

The vision came to life with First Nations photographer, and founder of Blak Lens collective, Michael Jalaru Torres, assisted by Benjamin Warlngundu Ellis. Along with some of the artists and designers, were some familiar faces with models from the Country to Couture runway including; Savannah Kruger, Charvarnie Walsh, Lekaiya Rabbitt and Mariann Paterson. With styling by Lou De Mattia of Sister Buffalo, and hair and make-up by NK Darwin’s Kat Lee and Jordyn Hannell- we had an incredible team on board!

The National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA) grows each and every year, and we are really lucky to recognise the extraordinary talent and creativity of First Nation creatives in the fashion industry.

Special thank you to the marie claire team, Producer Robyn Fay-Perkins and Writer Alley Pascoe, and the amazing crew behind the scenes, along with the Darwin Sailing Club for hosting us.

And to each of the NIFA winners for being a part of this beautiful photoshoot – Philomena Yeatman, Linda Puna and Unreal Fur, Laura Thompson of Clothing the Gaps, Denni Francisco of Ngali, and Esther Yarllarlla from Bábbarra Women’s Centre.

The National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA) are proudly presented by the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation’s (DAAFF) Indigenous Fashion Projects (IFP), and supported by the Northern Territory Government. With thanks to our media partners NITV and marie claire. NIFA is an umbrella event of Darwin Festival.
