Meanwhile in Darwin…

The inaugural National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA) were broadcast live via NITV’s social media channels on 5 August, announcing winners across six categories. While many of us across Australia were able to tune into the ceremony on screens, a lucky few were able to come together to celebrate in person at the Darwin Convention Centre.

The DAAFF team and Board members in Darwin welcomed event partners, community members, and NIFA Special Recognition Award nominee Lenore Dembski. Excitingly the event was attended by Northern Territory based winners; Bede Tungutalum from the Tiwi Islands, Kieren Karritpul from Nauiyu, and Mary Dhapalany, Margaret Malibirr and Evonne Muyuyngu from Ramingining. It was wonderful to celebrate their well deserved awards in person!

A very special evening and proud moment for all involved.

A warm thank you to everyone who came along – we hope you enjoy having a look through some of the moments captured on the night.

Stay Tuned

Congratulations to all of our nominees and of course to the winners. It’s no secret that we have got some talented people out there doing amazing things.

Thank you to all our Industry and Award partners and we look forward to sharing more from Indigenous Fashion Projects soon!

You can rewatch moments from the broadcast on Facebook HERE and now on SBS On Demand HERE.
