The Indigenous Fashion Projects Runway Returns to Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in 2022!
Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) marked a historic milestone for Indigenous Fashion in 2021, with two runways dedicated to Australia’s First Nations designers and artists. Presented by Afterpay & supported by David Jones, Indigenous Fashion Projects, are proud to be returning to AAFW on Tuesday 10 May at 8pm!
The IFP Runway will feature NEW collections from six renowned First Nations women, who are each also part of our IFP Pathways Program supported by David Jones.
Get ready for:
Maara Collective, By Yuwaalaraay designer Julie Shaw
Native Swimwear, By Biripi and Ngarabal designer Natalie Cunningham
Ngali, By Wiradjuri designer Denni Francisco
Liandra Swim, By Yolngu designer Liandra Gaykamangu
Indii, By Saltwater Dunghutti designer Nancy Pattison
Kirrikin, By Wonnarua designer Amanda Healy
Since appearing on the AAFW runway earlier in 2021, each of the designers have gone on to amass a strong following and record sales, along with attention from leading national and international retailers. The designers made headlines this October, when they were part of the first ever First Nations Capsule collection online at David Jones, in-store at Pacific Fair and their flagship Elizabeth St store in Sydney.
The six Indigenous women are fast making their mark on the global fashion landscape, pushing boundaries and using fashion as a platform to tell their stories, sharing their unique cultures through their designs. Sustainable practice by way of community engagement and caring for Country are key pillars in each label’s work. From Indigenous Art Centre and artist collaborations, through to the innovative use of sustainable materials and techniques that merge cultural knowledge with contemporary practice.
Come and engage with the contemporary creations of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.
Meeting on Gadigal Country, audiences will be treated to the launch of several NEW exclusive and commercial collections – on the runway for the very first time.
With surprise performances to be announced, and a homage to celebrating First Nations Culture, Country and Community leading this year’s show, the event is not to be missed!
